In recent months I have been exploring ways of developing compositions around a theme of interior and exterior spaces. These spaces are rather like stages on which characters and objects interact with each other... their meaning is largely left up to the viewer and their own interpretation... they are free to develop their own narrative for each work. These works are my attempt to find my own pictorial language.
Hip Hip Hurrah is the first in a series of works in which I have used characters taken from the 600 works I have made in the past 18 months. A kind of Pop Art image, bright and rich colour, it depicts a circus or carnival like crowd scene or a crowd at a bull-fight... the composition of a crowd made up of stand out individuals is reminiscent of Sir Peter Blake's Sgt Pepper's album cover design. Hip Hip Hurrah gives us a celebratory starting point but then what?
These works are capable of large scale production... see mock up below.
